About Michael Theodore

Michael Theodore started supporting youth in 1987, working at The Toronto Boy’s Home in the East end of Toronto. He continued working with young people at Central Toronto Youth Services and Street Outreach Services until 1991, when he began his career with The Peel District School Board. In 1995, Michael was part of the writing team enlisted to establish a new program at PDSB designed to support students with challenging needs. This work inspired Michael to create and develop the De-Escalation Training for Teens (D.E.T.T.) workshop, which he has exclusively been running in Peel since  2007. Hundreds of students have participated in the workshop since that time and the response from both school staff and youth has been overwhelmingly positive. Now, with the help of Social Work Solutions Canada, the D.E.T.T. program is being offered for the first time in Hamilton!

About  D.E.T.T.

Ever get anxious when you’re faced with the unexpected?

Do you get bothered by things you can’t control?

Have you ever regretted something you did, or said?

The De-Escalation Training for Teens workshop is a fun and interactive program designed to help you better understand what causes people and situations to escalate. Using the ‘Integrated Experience’ philosophy the training takes participants through the 4 stages of escalation and Mood Development. From anger and frustration to winding down after an incident, the D.E.T.T. workshop will help you learn how behaviours affect behaviours. This, in turn, will allow you to discover the skills required to assist you in controlling your own actions. The program also introduces the concept of 4 “Power Points”, which will supply you with the tools to learn how to recognize your triggers, and in so doing, potentially better manage your own moods and escalating behaviour.

It’s time to take control!
